When I told people I was going to Detroit the responses I got were things like “Why would you want to go to a city like that?” Or “you’re gonna get shot” Someone even had the nerve to say “Wow you’re gonna be the only white person there.” The perspective people have of this city is far from good. But I can tell you one thing. I have never seen so much good anywhere than I have spending one week in Detroit. The people here are broken and hurting but above all they are happy, every man, woman, or child I have passed on the streets has had a smile on their face. These people have such beautiful souls and stories, I can’t even begin to describe the love I’m feeling right now. I haven’t been this happy in a long time, and maybe if you heard 30,000 people singing Alleluia at the top of their lungs, you would feel the same way. You will be forever in my heart Detroit.
